" Hey Mr. Faulkner, your net didn't catch hardly ANY fish for us today . . . It was a bust!
All we came back with is a couple of hundred pounds of these Jumbo White shrimp (Litopenaeus Setiferus) . You need to make some adjustments on this thing . What do we do with all of these Big Shrimp?? ha ha !"

Kites. These are Catenary Kites. They work along with water pressure to regulate the "lift" of a trawls Cork Line.
|
The Mini- Misago Beam net. Ideal for harsh bottom areas, deep or shallow . . inland rivers or open water.
|
The Sandal Knot. This is what we use in sewing in Riblines. Its a unique, self torquing knot. * No, thats NOT sisal or manilla line . . . its a rough textured synthetic line that looks like manilla but holds up for ages . . low stretch if any, UV retardant and ideal for small trawls like we build.*
|
INS Otter Door for small scale nets. Note the bracing, the thicker steel shoes, the steel Tie Pads on the rear of the door and steel chocks holding the chain bridles.
|
16 SKT Model 38/12. This is one our best Aggregate Sampling trawls. It catches a huge variety of species in all sizes. Its been used on almost every continent. Shown here after being snagged and lost . . . then found and fished for years to come. * Note* While most would say we should build nets NOT to last so long, so you can sell more, We believe that IF we build them as 'Bullet Proof' as we can, stories like this one, will sell more nets for us. Quality will always surpass quantity.

Participants in INS's LINES & TWINES class. INS is the ONLY net shop offering such a comprehensive 2 day net mending class. I think they come more for Debbies Cajun Cooking . . . .

Well, you know one thing for sure . . . the Foot Rope is sure holding bottom well! SKT Model 25/38/12 DW ( deep water design)

INS Gorilla Seine. Extra Heavy duty, 4mm x 1000 denier raschel knotless seine with a special Mud Line on the bottom. Designed for use on muddy bottoms and or cobble filled sediment. A really tough little net.
|
Back in the Day, INS dabbled in Catfish seines. We came up with a net called the DIXIE SEINE that outlasted the nets they were using in the Delta for decades . It scared so many of the ol' tymers that we had to stop production. Maybe one day we will revive it . . . the design produced excellent catches, held bottom better and withstood far more abuse than the traditional nets they were used to . . . it just had different gripps on the lines, better floats and the Mudline was made much stronger . . . . I never understood their fear of new ideas and design. If it makes $$$ for you and it holds up, what's the issue?

I was hired by Garware Wall of India , to train a group of their workers into top grade net makers. THIS was my first team. Today, GWR of India is one the leading Trawl and Seine manufacturers in the world. * They already manufacture thousands of tonnes of twine, webbing and ropes.*

Smaller mesh could have reduced most of this 'gilling' and still kept the Year 02 fish they were after. Larger mesh would have released a substantial amount of the target species. Its a "Catch 22" some days.

Look closely at this. The netting on the Left is a braided HDPE netting. No net coating required. The netting on the Right is Ultra Cross ™ knotless netting that had been treated in a petroleum based net coating to 'stiffen' it up. However, the coating kept a slightly 'tacky' feel and subsequently produced a Velcro effect. Detritus clogged the UC netting as shown.

Ocean Model 70' x 25' Mamou Surface trawl.
NO winches, No Gantry, No "A" frame . . . Mullet doors are 78x36 . . . chunky , but at 60 lbs each, they can be manhandled if necessary. Samples fish from the surface down to 22-25'. Special Accelerator Tarp Funnel (ATF ) in the Cod End prevents swimout. A simple answer for those Semi Pelagic species . . . . works even better at Night!

A Concern About Low Bidders.
BOTH of these trawls are 16' along the Head ropes.
Notice what a HUGE difference there is in design though.
Its why one costs 50% less . . . it has 50% less netting.
The fuller, wider and longer body holds more fish . . period!
